I saw these guys in concert earlier this year. They cover songs in a genre other than their original composition. Quite entertaining stuff!

Aside from the wonderful arrangements, I was always impressed by how Scott Bradlee never puts himself in the forefront of the band. Almost always in the back or even his back to the camera. That’s someone with very little ego.

very true.... I don’t think I’ve ever seen him sing.
I’m so stoked he and his ex-girlfriend Robyn are touring together. I don’t know the circumstances of their split but their stage dynamic is great. She has SOME PIPES!
I must admit though that my current favorite vocalist is by and away Rachael Price from Lake Street Dive. This is one of my favorite songs these days

That was great. I’m a sucker for a thoroughly shredded upright bass.
Most recent musical act to get my attention has been St. Paul and the Broken Bones.
I was browsing at my local record store and they had their album playing. I asked for a copy when I went to checkout. Just listening to them without video, one might think it was something from the 60’s. I was a bit surprised to see 2014 on the back and thought perhaps it was a reissue. Opened the case and saw a bunch of young white guys and thought, “Goddammit, lady. You gave me the wrong album.” Sure enough...

Awesome! Thanks. I’ll have a more better listen of their stuff. I like this song a lot already.
Glad You loved that bass. I strongly recommend Lake Street Dive. That Bridget really is an ace on the bass yeah! Check out “bad self portraits”, “neighbor’s song”, and “seventeen”. Their music is the bomb.
You follow NPR Tiny Desk series?

Lol Turns out they have done NPR
May I also recommend Fantastic Negrito and Chance The Rapper?

Thanks for all the recommendations. Looks like I’ll be making a trip to the record store this weekend.
Chance gained a fan just with the Hook(BANGARANG!) references in Brain Cells, and I got about 45 seconds into Fantastic Negrito’s NPR performance and knew I was going to be giving him money. Fantastic stuff.

Chance did a song with Donnie Trumpet and Vic Mensah called Zion. So smooth! I love Chance because he incorporates horns in his rap game, but (and this is a huge but for me) he is also a supremely great lyricist like so many lost rappers of the late 90s like Mos Def and Talib Kweli.
This song just gives me the chills every time.

My musical tastes are all over the place lol. Life is way too short to corner oneself to just one genre, in my opinion, and I can tell you share that philosophy!

Definitely! Unwitting passengers are always bewildered by the randomness of my music library. And in that spirit...

My girlfriends always have strong opinions about that in my music library.
Especially compounded by the foreign stuff from Trinidad, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Venezuela, Mexico, and Senegal

I have to recommend Alabama Shakes for you. They’re also from Alabama like St Paul and the Broken Bones.
Those are officially my 2 new favorite bands

Yes, apparently they (Shakes and St Paul) have played together and the Shakes touring keyboard player has produced for St Paul
